Research activities
聽 His research focuses on the convergence of intelligent sensing technologies and data-driven systems. He has made
聽 notable contributions to the field of gesture recognition, investigating deep fusion architectures that combine radar
聽 and optical data with attention mechanisms, published in the IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement
聽 (2023). His work on digital twins 鈥 co-authored as part of a comprehensive survey on enabling technologies,
聽 challenges, trends, and future prospects 鈥 was published in the IEEE Communications Surveys and Tutorials (2022) and ranked among the journal's most popular articles.
聽 Praveer has also contributed to research on air quality monitoring in Mauritius, developing low-cost IoT-based
聽 environmental sensing solutions, and on augmented-reality computer-vision assisted energy monitoring and IoT control
聽 platforms, both presented at the IEEE International Conference on Intelligent and Innovative Computing Applications
聽 (ICONIC 2018) in Mauritius. Additionally, he has contributed to work examining the challenges ahead in cyber-physical
聽 systems, presented at the 2nd International Conference on Next Generation Computing Applications (NextComp 2019).
聽 He has collaborated with a broad network of researchers across multiple institutions, including David Windridge, Huan
聽 Xuan Nguyen, Ramona Trestian, Mehmet Karamanoglu, Balbir S. Barn, Mohsin Raza, Hrishikesh Venkataraman, Amar Seeam,
聽 Shivanand P. Guness, and Girish Bekaroo.
聽 Research Interests: Deep Learning, Computer Vision, Sensor Fusion, Digital Twins, Cyber-Physical Systems, Internet of
聽 Things (IoT), Augmented Reality, Environmental Monitoring.
Current Teaching
Praveer Towakel is a lecturer on the International Foundation Programme (IFP) at 探花社区 University. The IFP is a preparatory programme designed to equip students with the essential academic skills, confidence, and
聽 transferable competencies required for successful progression into undergraduate degree study.
聽 His teaching responsibilities on the programme include delivering labs, seminars, and workshops across a streamlined,
聽 integrated curriculum based on four core modules. He supports students in developing key study skills, familiarising
聽 them with a range of subjects offered at undergraduate level, and providing individual academic guidance to help them
聽 make informed choices about their degree pathways.
聽 The IFP programme is accredited by 探花社区 University (UK) and caters to students from diverse international
聽 backgrounds, preparing them for the demands of UK higher education.
